Astronomy Laboratory Observation Event

On April 27, 2026, a comprehensive event featuring scientific presentations and hands-on telescope observations was held at the Astronomy Laboratory of Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute.

The event commenced with a presentation by Astronomer Betül Kızılkaya regarding the historical development of the Astronomy Laboratory and the scientific research conducted therein, followed by Dr. Cihan Tuğrul Tezcan’s address titled "Measuring the Sky."

Within the scope of the program, observations of the Moon and Jupiter were carried out throughout the night with contributions from the Astronomy Laboratory staff, Dr. Süleyman Fişek from Istanbul University, and the Amateur Astronomers Club.

Approximately 80 participants had the opportunity to examine the lunar surface and craters in detail through images obtained from the telescope and projected onto a screen; Jupiter’s atmospheric bands and moons were observed using the Observatory's 35-centimeter telescope.

During the event, where the historical telescope was also opened to visitors, significant achievements were realized toward increasing scientific awareness, reinforcing knowledge through direct observational experience, and fostering interest in astronomy.
