Our Institute Continues Its Efforts to Strengthen the Bond Between Science and Society Through Sky Observations as Well

Dr. Cihan Tuğrul Tezcan from our Institute’s Astronomy Laboratory delivered a speech titled "Measuring the Sky" as part of the Sky Observation Event organized by TÜBİTAK at Lake Emre, Afyonkarahisar.

At the event, which hosted approximately 1,000 participants, solar observations were conducted with contributions from our Astronomy Laboratory. Participants observed sunspots through telescopes and recorded them by drawing on paper using the projection method.

This method represents a scientific observation tradition maintained at well-established observatories worldwide, such as Kandilli Observatory. Contributing to the generation of long-term sunspot records and the monitoring of solar variability, this practice continues to be utilized by modern researchers today.

In this way, participants experienced both learning about a historical heritage and becoming part of the practice of scientific observation.
